Event Rules and Accident Waiver/ Release of Liability Terms


DEFINITIONS:

Wife Carrying Contest (“Event”)

Organized by Midnight Sun Festival, Inc. (“Organizer”)

Officers and Volunteers of Organizer (“Management”)

Event Rules (“Rules”)

Husband and Wife Team (“Team”)


EVENT LOCATION:

Bryant Park, Lake Worth Beach, Florida 33460.


EVENT DATE & TIME:

Sunday, March 2, 2025

   12:00 pm – Weigh-in

   12:30 pm – Introduction of Athletes

     1:00 pm – Competition Begins

     4:45 pm – Awards Ceremony


AGE LIMIT/ MARITAL STATUS:

Team members must both be at least 18 years old. Team members are not required to be legally married.


WIFE’S MINIMUM WEIGHT:

The Wife’s minimum weight is 108 lbs. If needed, sandbags (provided) will be carried by the Wife to increase her weight to the minimum of 108 lbs.


ENTRY FEE:

$25.00 per Team. Team agrees to accept all risks associated with inclement weather conditions. There will be no refunds. Entry Fee is waived for 1st Responders.


COURSE:

The length of the course is approximately 280 yards. The course contains obstacles such as log hurdles and a water hazard.


COMPETITION:

There is no restriction on how the Wife is carried. If a Husband drops his Wife, the Husband must pick her up before advancing. Teams run the course 2 to 4 Teams per Heat, with each Team being timed. The four overall fastest Teams qualify for the Medal Round. Teams do not have to win their initial Heat to qualify for the Medal Round, nor does winning your initial Heat guarantee entry into the Medal Round.


MEDALS:

The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place Teams will receive Medals.


HELMETS:

A helmet (provided) is required for the Wife.


ATHLETIC ACTIVITY:

Team acknowledges that the Event is an athletic activity which may involve serious injury or death. Team assumes all risks of participating in the Event. Team members certify that they have no medical conditions that would restrict their participation in the Event.


MEDICAL CONSENT:

Team hereby consents to receive medical treatment should injury or illness occur during or after the Event.


CONDUCT:

Team members are expected to abide by the Rules and conduct themselves in a polite manner. Alcohol consumption during the 8-hour period prior to the Event is prohibited.


PROMOTIONAL MATERIALS:

Team agrees that the Organizer may photograph, record audio/video, and/or transmit live broadcast of the Team during the Event. Team consents to the use of such photographs and/or recordings for promotional purposes.


INSURANCE/ LIABILITY:

The Organizer is not responsible for any personal injury, accident, property damage, or lost or stolen property that may occur at the Event. Team assumes all liability for any loss or costs that Team may incur. Insurance coverage for Team is not provided by the Organizer.


WAIVER & INDEMNIFICATION:

Team hereby releases, waives, and holds harmless the Organizer and Management from any liability for any damage to person or property sustained by Team arising out of the Event. Team hereby indemnifies and holds harmless the Organizer and Management from any liability which may occur as a result of Team’s negligent or wrongful conduct during the Event, including costs and attorney’s fees.


GOVERNING LAW:

Any dispute shall be governed by the laws of the State of Florida. Venue shall be Palm Beach County, Florida.
